Today’s newest member of the Inspiring Girl Boss club is Sheila from In Search of Sheila, a boss babe managing a full-time job and her kick-ass blog that’s all about blogging intentionally. Sheila is one of my closest blogging friends and I am so glad that I stumbled upon her blog & insta! If you’ve been following along on Instagram, then you probably recognize Sheila from the two meet-ups we had in PA. It’s always a good time when we get to hang out and usually involves a photoshoot or two 🙂

Keep reading to learn more about Sheila and her journey to becoming a total #girlboss!

#1 What motivated you to start your fashion blog, before it became In Search of Sheila?

Sheila: First of all, I want to thank you for coming up with such amazing questions and allowing me to share my story on your blog!
When I started my blog, it was somewhere I could share my passion for photography and personal style. It served as my creative outlet and it was also super fun to connect with other bloggers around the world!

#2 You recently re-branded your blog In Search of Sheila and I love it! Tell me more about what helped you decide to re-brand.

Sheila: It’s a long story (lol) that I would love to go in more detail over coffee, but here’s the short(ish) version – I stopped finding joy in blogging about clothes. I hit a dark place where I felt like I wasn’t getting anywhere and ultimately like I wasn’t good enough for the blogging world. I spent a month soul-searching, defined my personal values, and found my purpose in life: to help other women grow their blogs.
Secondly, I hated the pressure I put on myself to buy new clothes, keep up with trends, and be constantly trying to shoot outfit photos. I  grew as a person and realized there was more to life.

#3 At your full-time job, you are an archivist and librarian, which I think is so fascinating! How did you end up in that career path?

Sheila: I’m glad you think it’s cool, I always feel like it’s a boring topic to some people! I always had a thing for history, but didn’t know it until I dropped out of photography school. I transferred to a liberal arts school (Kutztown University, woo Golden Bears!) and entered with an undeclared major. I’m the kind of person that has soo many interests, so choosing a career path was really hard for me. After taking some general education classes, I realized history was what I wanted to do. More specifically, working with archival collections and making materials available for public use. Librarianship kind of fell into my lap and I’ve grown to love it.

#4 How has your career prepared you for owning your own business?

Sheila: My career teaches me time management skills every single day. I’m in charge of all my duties and projects (just like my blog!) plus I manage three different areas, so I have to prioritize what needs done and in what order.
The same goes for my blog. While I have so many ideas and goals for myself, I struggle with prioritizing them in order of importance. I seek out advice from fellow bloggers all the time to help me with this!

#5 What was one of the biggest lessons you learned as a fashion blogger that you carry with you today?

Sheila: I have to be honest and say this question had me stumped for a good while. I would say it taught me that I have influence over others. It’s amazing to know people all over the world went to my blog and Instagram for daily outfit inspiration and advice. This gave me the confidence to re-brand my blog and help others on a deeper level.

#6 What’s your #1 tip for women just starting their own blog/business?

Sheila: Remember to always strive to be 100% you! Stand out from the rest by embracing what makes you different and only dive in if you are truly passionate about your blog/biz and that it will bring you joy.

#7 What’s one quote that inspires you every day?

Sheila: “Stay patient and trust your journey.” I found this on Pinterest while I was re-branding and it has stuck with me ever since. As bloggers, we are all on different journeys and what works for someone else, might not work for you. How quickly something pans out for another, might take you a little bit longer. Knowing that I’m on my own journey and I will get where I am going in the most perfect way keeps me grounded and inspired.

#8 Walk us through your process for planning out your blog content!

Sheila: I wish I could say I was more organized than I actually am, butttt I’m not completely there yet. Right now, I work post by post and write them on the weekends. This involves deciding what topic to write about (what’s my audience interested in most this week?), outlining the content, shooting photos (if I don’t have any prepared), creating Pinterest images, optimizing my SEO, proofreading, creating my newsletter that goes out the same day, and promotion, promotion, promotion.

#9 You recently started your own Facebook group, In Search of Blog Squad. Tell me more about the motivation behind starting this group!

Sheila: I love my Facebook squad! The major motivator was when I re-branded I wanted In Search of Sheila to be a place of community. Creating a Facebook group was the best way to achieve that. It’s become a place to connect and grow with other bloggers and everyone in there inspires me on the daily.

#10 What’s your favorite part about owning your own business?

Sheila: I love that I can fulfill my purpose in life by helping people, but also by continually learning. With each new endeavor I take on, there is ALWAYS something new to learn.

#11 If you could have lunch with a girl boss, who would it be and why?

Sheila: Jenna Kutcher!! She radiates such great energy so I would love to soak that up in person. She’s inspired me so much in my re-branding, especially when it comes to sharing parts of my life that I never thought people would be interested in. Plus, we could get mac and cheese together!!

  1. I discovered Sheila through Blog Boss Babes, maybe before she rebranded (?), but I instantly enjoyed her content as well. Now if she could only do a quick tutorial on how to rock a half bun without looking like a toddler, cause I seriously need the help

  2. I love this series so much, It’s always so inspiring. I just went and followed Shelia on Facebook, Insta, and Pinterest. There’s so much happiness in her posts! I really find her taking time to do some soul searching refreshing!

  3. I also struggle with getting my blog content organized in advance. Fully agree that you MUST love your blog and topic or you won’t be able to keep it going! Will be checking out the FB group because fellow Sheilas are automatically cool…

  4. Sheila is SUCH a boss girl & she has been so inspirational for me in the beginning of my blogging journey xx I love that she works her butt off all day at a 9-5 & still manages to produce such influential content!

  5. Learning more about Sheila through your interview was so fun! I love her because she is so down to earth and helpful. Thanks for writing this, Kristen :))

  6. Did I just find my new favorite blog? I definitely resonate with the story of her rebrand. Four years later, I’m still trying to figure out what I want to blog about because I have so many passions, but I find that the connections I make with bloggers are deeper when their blog isn’t just about wearing nice clothes. I love that her niche is something that so many people can relate to. And it’s so nice to be able to meet your blog friends in person! I’ve taken several vacas that involved either staying overnight with blog friends or meeting up for lunch or coffee, and I’ve loved it so much. Blog friends are the best friends.
