Self-confidence is something that we all struggle with at some point in our lives, especially in job interviews. Job interviews can be extremely nerve-wrecking and can be moments where we lack self-confidence. I want to turn that around and give you the steps to feel more confident in your next job interview. Keep reading to find out my top 5 tips to feeling more confident in an interview, my experience with teeth whitening and a special GIVEAWAY from Smile Brilliant!
I have always been really self-conscious about my teeth. From years and years of drinking coffee, tea and wine (because I love a good glass of wine), my teeth are stained pretty badly. I’ve tried using whitening strips and whitening toothpaste in the past but those don’t really take away the years of stains left on my teeth. I always wanted to get a professional whitening treatment but those can be pretty pricey at a dentist (upwards of $500), so when I found out about Smile Brilliant’s affordable at-home teeth whitening product I was thrilled to say the least! They offer the same teeth whitening treatment you would get at a dentist for under $200.
The process is straight-forward and the best part is that you can do it all from home! Seriously, you don’t even need to leave your house to get professional teeth whitening – how amazing is that?!
Upon purchase you will be shipped your whitening kit, which contains the items needed to create your impressions for the custom-fitted trays, the whitening gel and desensitizing gel. Smile Brilliant had easy-to-follow instructions that were included in the kit so you know what to do each step of the way. They also have helpful articles on their website to help you through each step of the process.
Once I sent out my impressions, I received my custom-fitted trays within a few business days and I was so excited to get started! The whitening process fit perfectly into my routine, I would start my teeth whitening around 8PM while watching TV and finish up before getting ready for bed around 9:30-9:45PM.
I was really nervous that my teeth would be too sensitive for professional teeth whitening, but with the desensitizing gel it helped prevent sensitivity. I experienced a little bit of sensitivity during my first two treatments but after that I didn’t experience it at all!
Now I have a whiter smile that has helped me feel more confident after just 7 treatments! I highly recommend this product to anyone looking to whiten their teeth before a big event, like a job interview or important meeting or anyone who is just trying to whiten their teeth in general.
Aside from teeth whitening, here are some other ways to feel more confident heading into a job interview:
#1 Prepare for the Interview Beforehand
Do not, I repeat DO NOT, go into an interview without doing research and preparing beforehand. Take time leading up to the interview to do your research on the company and think about the types of answers you would want to give to specific questions. Think about your answers to the hard questions like “Where do you see yourself in 5 years?” or “What is your biggest weakness?”. Taking just a little bit of time to prepare before an interview can make all the difference in your interview and your confidence.
#2 Review Your Experience
It’s pretty much a given that in a job interview, the interviewer is going to ask you to go over your job experience and give them specific examples. Consider what projects you’ve worked on in the past that you think would be helpful for the position you’re interviewing for and give concrete examples of how you’ve helped to improve the process, work with difficult clients, etc.
#3 Gather Questions You Have
Whenever I am interviewing a potential hire, I am always impressed when they a few questions throughout the interview. Typically if the interviewee doesn’t have any questions, it’s not a candidate that we will pursue. The best interviews are the ones that seem more conversational and you can tell that the interviewee is genuinely interested in the company.
So when you’re preparing for an interview, make sure to make a list of questions you’d like to ask in the interview. The list doesn’t have to be a page long, but having between 3-5 questions that you would like to ask about the position, company, etc. will help you have a more conversational interview.
Do you tend to get really nervous before presentations or interviews? I definitely do! Ask a family member or friend to do a test run with you before the interview to help you get the nervous energy out! It may sound silly, but this makes a huge difference in your confidence going into the interview.
#5 Figure Out Your Outfit the Night Before
The outfit you wear to an interview is one of the first impressions that you give to the interviewer, so make sure that you are wearing an outfit that is professional but also makes you feel confident.
I have a go-to blazer that I wear for big presentations or interviews, the second I put it on – I feel more confident! I don’t know what it is exactly about the blazer that makes me feel that way, but it is my go-to piece when I have a big interview or presentation coming up. Do you have a blazer or a dress that makes you feel extra confident? Wear that in your interview!
