What is the Sophisticated Gal?

The Sophisticated Gal is a community for young women, millennials and recent college grads to help make the transition from college to the real world easier. Every Tuesday, I share a new blog post that covers topics to help make the transition less stressful and help you further your career.

You will also see lots of inspiration and stories of other young women that are total boss babes in their careers, side hustles & more. If you are a total boss babe and think that you would be a great part of the Inspiring Girl Boss feature, fill out the form on this page for a chance to be featured!

Hey, I’m Kristen & the Owner of The Sophisticated Gal!

My name is Kristen and I am a millennial woman finding my way in the real world. I graduated from Penn State with a degree in Advertising and currently work on websites for clients at an ad agency. Along the way, I’ve learned so much after working in the real world for 3+ years that I wanted to share what I’ve learned with the rest of the world. I was able to become a true leader in early on in my career and it has helped me advance in the real world. I want to share those strategies with the world so other young women can become leaders as well.
When I’m not working on my side hustle or at my full-time job, you can find me taking a yoga class at a local yoga studio, snuggling on the couch with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc watching Fixer Upper or hanging out with family and friends 🙂

The Story of How The Sophisticated Gal Started…

In 2014, I began an Etsy store called SophisticatedResumes that offers resume template designs and resume writing services. The inspiration began when I was attending a career fair at my alma mater on behalf of my company and got to see students’ resumes from the other side of the table. There were some resumes that really stood out to me and others that just seemed to mix in with the rest. I became inspired to create easy-to-use resume templates for others to help them stand out when they were applying for jobs and internships.
Since I have started my Etsy store, I have learned even more about resumes and what to do on your resume to ultimately help you get the job. Combined with my experience working in the Digital Marketing industry, I was lucky enough to learn so much while I was establishing my career and also working on resume designs.
There have been a few mentors I’ve had along the way that have helped me with my career to get me where I am today and the advice I’ve learned from them has been so valuable in my career. With my love of writing and also an entrepreneurial spirit ever since I was a little girl, I started The Sophisticated Gal to share my experiences and advice for other young women starting their career.
I truly hope that you enjoy the articles we post and that they help you find your voice in the real world.
xoxo Kristen
